Danny Wilson insists he will give new signing Thomas Dossevi ample time to acclimatise to the pace of the English football.
The Togolese frontman was withdrawn at half-time during the opening day defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion after a robust introduction to League 1, and after coming off the bench on Tuesday night, Wilson is confident that the 31-year-old will make an impact at SN1 this season.
He said: "You're not going to get your own way in every game and that's something that Thomas has to get used to.
"He works very, very hard and I'm sure he'll get used to English football.
"It's a shock to the system sometimes and it's not as easy to just adapt to it."
And Wilson added that Dossevi's build and strength should allow him to mix it with some of the notoriously robust defences in the second tier of English football.
"He's got to expect to get knocks off the ball, you've just got to accept it, get on with it and dish a bit out himself," he said.
"He was a bit shell shocked at half-time on Saturday (against Brighton), but he's got to get used to it.
"But he's got the physical attributes to be able to cope with it, and once he's settled into it I'm sure he'll be fine."
