Danny Wilson offered his views to the media after watching his side go down 2-1 to Leyton Orient in the Carling Cup first round at The County Ground on Tuesday night.
The manager was hugely disappointed with the defeat, which came from a game that his side had been comfortable in for considerable periods.
He said: "After being so much in control of the game and having so many chances to win it, I'm more than disappointed.
"The fact that we didn't put it to bed is one problem, and the other is our defending.
"We've let people come through us, full-backs weren't tucking in - it's just a number of little things that we're not doing.
"But we'll get back to the training ground and keep drumming it into them before Hartlepool."

He continued to outline his anger and his side's inability to kill off a game which could have been finished at half time, but which was eventually clinched by two clinical finishes from the visitors.
He said: "They've only had few chances like Brighton did on Saturday.
"It's obviously disappointing to go out of the cup, but we've had enough chances to go four or five up and having taken them.
"We had a 1-0 lead and we should have been able to see it through, but we haven't taken our chances.
"Most of these boys know exactly what we do, but it's just taking it over the line and we've just got to impregnate these things in them."

And ahead of this Saturday's clash with Wilson's former side Hartlepool United, the manager is adamant that he will not change his side's preparation, and believes they can kick-start their season at Victoria Park.
"We've got to work hard on the training ground and try and gain that understanding," he said.
"We've got to have that belief and trust in each other we've seen last season, and even though we've got new personnel and players that have left that means nothing.
"The quicker that we can do that the better, and I'm confident we can do that, starting on Saturday."
