Danny Wilson offered his views to the media after watching his side draw 0-0 with Carlisle United at Brunton Park on Saturday afternoon.
The manager was satisfied to have taken a point from a notoriously difficult ground to visit, and reserved particular praise for his defenders, who coped well with the hosts' attacking threats.
He said: "We had to be solid. We knew how they played, we matched them up and we weren't overrun at any point which was encouraging.
"The back four, and particularly the back two were very good, they headed everything and gave David very little to do in goal.
"But with this performance, and the win on Tuesday, we've set a good foundation to build on which hopefully we can do."

Town had a number of chances to claim all three points, but couldn't find the back of the net, with Charlie Austin squandering the best of the opportunities late on.
However, while disappointed to have not taken full advantage, Wilson was philosophical in the face of his side's attacking showing.
He said: "We've had four great chances, but we haven't taken them, and if you don't take your chances then you don't get the wins.
"Another day he'll (Austin) bury those sorts of chances, and maybe he had a little bit too much time.
"All strikers are disappointed when they don't take chances, but he'll get over it I'm sure.

"On the positive side we've come to a difficult place and taken a point and we've had two clean sheets on the bounce against two very strong, attacking teams."
The manager was also quick to praise the impact of substitute David Ball, who caused a number of problems for the home defence after being introduced in the second half.
"Young David was a livewire and caused their back four a different problem to what Vinnie (Pericard) did," he said.
"It was a shame he couldn't take his chance, but he didn't get quite enough on it and their defender could get round and clear it."
Overall the boss was keen to deflect attention from his side's missed chances, and took the positives from a solid performance ahead of next week's visit of Southampton to The County Ground.
He said: "We've taken a good point today, but we didn't have that little bit of quality at the end, and that was the thing that stuck out for me.
"But as the game went on, we took control of it and looked like getting back to our old selves, so there's lots to take into next week."
