Settled Benson ready for a battle

Posted on: Fri 13 Jan 2012

Town striker Paul Benson is looking forward to 'a battle' this weekend as he prepares to return to action in a Swindon shirt.

Benson scored the winner after coming off the bench against Wigan Athletic last Saturday but missed the midweek trip to Underhill with a slight strain.

"I had a chat with the Gaffer about how I was and we agreed that it would be best for me to rest on Tuesday," Benson told STFC Player.

"Having sat out the Barnet game I hope to play a part for the rest of the season rather than risk it."

The 32-year old is relishing the prospect of regular football with the Robins, starting with a trip to The Don Valley Stadium this weekend.

"League 2 games are always tough and Rotherham are a strong side. They will want to play their football in the final third and it will be a battle no doubt about it.

"I am sure they will want revenge from the defeat here earlier in the season in front of the Sky cameras so we will have to roll out sleeves up and give it a real good go."

Benson admits he has settled in well to life on and off the pitch at The County Ground, helped by a few familiar faces.

He added: "It's going really well so far here. I knew Macca (Alan McCormack) and Matty (Ritchie) so that's been a big help for me to get used to things.

"I am not a screamer or a shouter, but I try to pass on words of advice at the right time. It's about balance and it works well here at Swindon."
