Swindon Town were forced to make another change shortly before kick-off after Jamie Vincent suffered a recurrence of a groin injury in the warm-up. This meant a return to the side for Jack Smith with Sofiene Zaaboub a late addition to the substitutes bench.

The visitors included former Chelsea man Frank Sinclair in their line-up and he skippered the Terriers, who also named ex-Bristol City striker Phil Jevons, in the starting eleven.

McNamee opened the game brightly and after linking up well with Cox, saw his cross easily gathered by visiting keeper Matt Glennon.

It was the perfect start from Swindon who opened the scoring in style. A ball down the left saw Simon Cox beat the offside trap and romp into space. He gathered the ball before firing in a low left foot cross which was met by strike partner Billy Paynter, and he finished with aplomb past Glennon from six yards on four minutes.

Swindon's desire and work-rate was there for all to see after taking the lead. Cox, Comminges and Allen all showed good commitment to the cause so soon after seeing their side take the advantage.

Lee Peacock came to the home side's rescue on 15 minutes with Huddersfield keen to get back on level terms. A throw in from the right caused some confusion in the Swindon box and after Phil Smith's punch was planted back into the box, Andy Holdsworth saw his back-header cleared off the line by Peacock with Smith beaten.

Miguel Comminges recovered well with a superb tackle on 19 minutes with Malvin Kamara looking to make ground on the right. Simon Cox then wasted an excellent chance on 21 minutes. A superb run from McNamee saw Cox found in space on the right, but he blasted wide on the volley from the angle eight yards out.

Swindon doubled their lead with just 23 minutes played. Another excellent run from McNamee, who left Sinclair rooted to the spot, saw Craig Easton slide the ball home at the back post from close range with the Robins having made a dream start to the first half.

Phil Smith went down after colliding with Jevons just after the half hour mark but was able to continue after treatment.

Town midfielder Craig Easton netted his second of the evening with 31 minutes played. After good work from Paynter and Cox, Easton was presented with time and space on the edge of the yard box and he fired in to make it three nil well before the break. The goal had a touch of fortune after firing off home keeper Glennon.

Veteran striker Andy Booth vented his frustration with a lunging challenge on Hasney Aljofree on the half way line in front of the home dugout.

Phil Smith saved well from a Phil Jevons free-kick five minutes before the break with Swindon defending well from the resulting corner. Another break from McNamee ensued although this time - for the first time of the evening - Sinclair stepped in to nullify the danger.

Huddersfield were awarded a penalty on 43 minutes after Michael Collins had been sandwiched by Peacock and Comminges on the right hand edge of the area. Phil Jevons stepped up and sent Smith the wrong way for his third goal of the season against Swindon.

Swindon almost added to their tally on the stroke of half-time. A superb break involving Cox, Easton, and Smith then saw Paynter square the ball across the face of the eighteen-yard box. Chris Allen fired in a superb effort with Glennon doing well to tip the ball over.

Half-Time: Swindon Town 3 Huddersfield 1

The home side emerged unchanged for the second half and were soon showing their attacking intent with Simon Cox's surging run called back for a previous foul.

Huddersfield forced an early corner on 51 minutes with Robbie Williams' corner headed wide from Frank Sinclair who was in space only five yards out. The chance was certainly guilt edged with the home side left to rue an excellent chance to reduce the deficit.

Phil Smith produced a fine close range save to deny Andy Booth on 55 minutes although with the whistle already blown the effort wouldn't have counted.

Billy Paynter was booked for dissent shortly before the hour after a contentious decision by the official in the middle on the half-way line with Swindon on the attack.

Swindon were reduced ten men on 61 minutes with Lee Peacock shown a straight red card after a challenge on Malvin Kamara in front of the Kingswood Stand. Town boss Maurice Malpas responded by replacing Cox with McGovern. The change left Paynter up front as the lone striker with McGovern wide on the right of a midfield four.

The in-form McNamee tried his luck from distance on 69 minutes but his lofted effort from 35 yards was easily gathered by Glennon in the Terriers goal.

Huddersfield boss Andy Ritchie introduced powerful front man Luke Beckett into the action on 73 minutes in place of Robbie Williams. The visitors then switched to a 4-3-3 formation to try and force added pressure on what had been a resolute backline.

Swindon were then reduced to nine men for the closing stages. After a sustained attack from the visitors, Paynter handballed a goalbound effort onto the bar with the referee left with no choice but to show a straight red for the former Port Vale front man on 76 minutes. Phil Jevons then struck past Smith from the spot for the second time in the game to make it 3-2.

Moses Ashikodi was then introduced to replace Anthony McNamee after what had been an impressive performance from the winger - perhaps his best in a Swindon shirt since arriving from Watford.

The Town substitute was booked within sixty seconds of coming on after a late challenge on the half-way line.

Chris Brandon set up a fine chance for Booth on 85 minutes although Smith did well to tip the ball over the bar from close range. Smith then denied Jevons from close range with Huddersfield close to grabbing a late point.

Moses Ashikodi was hauled off after coming on as a substitute. Ashikodi made way for Roberts in second minute of four in injury time. It had been a lethargic short contribution from the Watford striker who made way for the Welshman.

Swindon survived a last minute corner, which saw Matt Glennon race up from his goal to join the attack. The whistle then blew to seal a welcome three points for The Robins.

The victory saw Swindon rise to 12th in League One, just five points behind Tranmere Rovers on 52 points.
