Barnet battled through to win a place in the FA Cup Fourth Round after a penalty shoot-out win Underhill.

The home side had been down to ten men in the second half with Michael Leary dismissed for a two-footed lunge on Zaaboub.

However, Barnet held on and some fantastic goalkeeping from Rob Beckwith in the shoot-out secured a place in Round Four for the Bees.

Swindon Town boss Maurice Malpas made one change to his starting line-up at Underhill with Craig Easton missing out through injury. A calf strain sustained in Saturday's 2-1 home win over Nottingham Forest meant a recall for Michael Pook in the centre of midfield. Phil Smith and Barry Corr were also recalled to the substitutes bench.

Town started the game brightly with Blair Sturrock seeing an effort fall just the wrong side of the post. Barnet too were soon into the game with Adam Birchall bringing an excellent save out of Peter Brezovan after a cross from former Town man Nicky Nicolau.

Billy Paynter, starting up front once again with Blair Sturrock, saw a ninth minute header gathered by Rob Beckwith in the Bees goal with The Robins looking to make an early impact.

Adam Birchall, the former Arsenal striker who levelled the original tie at The County Ground, was back in the thick of it with fifteen minutes played. He crept past Ifil before firing a low shot which was well saved by Brezovan with his legs.

Sofiene Zaaboub was the next to try his luck although his excellent run saw a shot cleared off the line by Michael Leary with the goal gaping after a promising Town attack going down the famous slope. Cliff Akurang then headed straight at Brezovan from a free-kick before Sturrock blasted wide from the angle at the other end with 19 minutes on the clock.

Swindon sustained a period of pressure which had seen Fairclough's side exert more pressure on Brezovan's goal, before Town launched another attack of their own. After a corner had been cleared, the ball ran through to Sofiene Zaaboub on the edge of the box. His first time effort found its way through a ruck of bodies before striking Lee Peacock on the six yard line and the ball rolled narrowly wide.

Miguel Comminges received his second yellow card in as many games after holding back Adam Birchall on 34 minutes. The free-kick piled into the wall with Town surviving again.

The home side should have opened the scoring on 38 minutes. After a good move down the right, a cross in from the right by Max Porter found the unmarked Cliff Akurang and the striker could only head over from six yards out.

Swindon took the lead with Billy Paynter netting just before the break. A lofted ball through from Zaaboub was brilliantly brought down by the big striker and he brushed off his marker before firing his left foot effort past Beckwith into the net on 39 minutes to hand his side a welcome half-time lead.

Half-Time: Barnet 0 Swindon Town 1

Swindon emerged from the half-time break unchanged, looking to build on what had been a solid first half showing against their League Two opponents.

Barnet could have levelled the affair just two minutes into the new half. Puncheon beat Peacock on the flank and his cross was not claimed by Brezovan, with the ball bouncing around the six yard box before Comminges and Ifil combined to clear.

Jamie Vincent came to Swindon's rescue with 50 minutes on the clock. A through ball saw Akurang played into space and as the striker advanced towards goal, Jamie Vincent slid across to deny the Bees front man.

Soon after the home side were level. Another promising run from Puncheon down the right hand side saw the ball played with pace into the Town box. Billy Paynter deflected the ball into the net with the scores levelled on 52 minutes.

Town boss Maurice Malpas made his first change of the evening on the hour. Barry Corr, named amongst the substitutes after serving a three-game suspension after a sending off against Swansea City on New Years Day, replaced Blair Sturrock in the front line.

Just after the change Town surged forward with Paynter brushing off two challenges before unleashing a powerful effort. Unfortunately his effort from 12 yards cannoned wide of Beckwith's goal.

Hasney Aljofree became the second player in red to see yellow on 66 minutes for dissent before Lee Peacock deflected a Puncheon effort wide with Barnet looking for a second. Nicky Nicolau stung Brezovan's hands with a low drive from 25 yards with twenty minutes remaining.

The home side were down to ten men with 17 minutes to go with Michael Leary dismissed for a two-footed lunge on Sofiene Zaaboub with the Frenchman stretchered off. Christian Roberts was introduced into the action on the left wing.

Barry Corr instigated a superb Town attack on 80 minutes. A quick throw from Paynter found the Irishman who laid the ball wide to McGovern. The winger advanced down the flank before cutting the ball back inside on the edge of the box to Corr, who forced a superb save from Beckwith.

Michael Pook had an opportunity to get in a strike on goal with five minutes remaining but opted to square the ball wide for Roberts who earned a corner. The set-piece was taken with Paynter narrowly missing out on a second goal at the right end.

A fantastic cross-field ball from J-P McGovern found Paynter who brought the ball down with ease inside the box, turned his man before seeing his shot superbly saved by Beckwith who had ensured a busy evening in between the sticks.

In the closing minutes of normal time Beckwith was again found in superb form to deny McGovern at the back post. The winger had ghosted in but as he tried to slide the ball under the Barnet keeper, Beckwith shut out the chance.

Full-time: Barnet 1 Swindon Town 1

After a brief teamtalk from Maurice Malpas, the Town players were soon back in action for half an hour of extra-time. Swindon were looking to make the most of their one-man advantage after the second half dismissal of Michael Leary.

The first real chance of the added time saw Barry Corr head over from close range just two minutes in after a cross from the impressive McGovern. Jason Puncheon then saw his free-kick sail narrowly wide of Brezovan's left hand post.

As the rain fell for the first time of the evening, Christian Roberts saw an effort deflected wide before Michael Pook saw his effort cleared.

Jerel Ifil was then booked with seven minutes played in added time after Jason Puncheon had been brought down on the edge of the box, with the resulting set-piece cleared without any further threat to the visitors goal.

Giuliano Grazioli was introduced for the home side four minutes before the interval with Cliff Akurang making way before the referee blew his whistle with the scores still level going into the second period of extra-time.

After the restart Barnet boss Paul Fairclough introduced Anthony Thomas and Joe O'Cearuill into the action from the bench with eight minutes played in the second period. Thomas replaced Birchall with Nicky Nicolau making way for O'Cearuill.

The fourth official's board signalled two minutes of additional time with neither side able to make the break through with the game going to penalties.
