Barry Corr's 86th minute equaliser following Simon Cox's 15th goal of the season earned a great point for Swindon after Leicester City had taken a two goal lead, writes Adrian Smith.

The draw was the minimum which Swindon deserved after a good performance against second placed Leicester so caretaker manager David Byrne's tenure started well with an inspired substitution by introducing Corr who scored after ten minutes on the pitch.

Swindon Town made two changes to their line-up to face Leicester City with caretaker boss David Byrne naming Lilian Nalis in the starting eleven along with Lee Peacock who returned from a back injury to take his place alongside Michael Pook in the heart of the midfield.

Swindon made a bright start gaining a corner in the first minute when a Leicester defender headed the ball behind and when McNamee sent over a deep inswinging cross, Lee Peacock headed just over the bar.  Leicester's first serious attack resulted in a corner after Phil Smith had smothered the ball at the feet of Steve Howard but the Swindon defence were able to clear the danger.

Lloyd Dyer went close to scoring the opener with a fizzing shot from just outside the area after evading the Town defence after some sustained pressure by the visitors.

Michael Pook had two shots in the space of one minute as he did his best to put Swindon ahead as the match entered the 19th minute but his efforts went narrowly wide. Three minutes later Lee Peacock sent a free-kick sailing over the bar after he had been fouled and then got up to take the kick.

Michael Pook rises high

Michael Pook set up Simon Cox with a good pass to run on to and Swindon's leading goalscorer found himself with only the goalkeeper Henderson to beat but sadly Cox sidefooted badly wide. Swindon's leading scorer Cox  looked understandably annoyed with himself after wasting the chance particularly as he misses the next fixture at Bristol Rovers due to suspension for five yellow cards this season.

Swindon had the ball in the net on 29 minutes when Patrick Kanyuka bundled home from a hanging cross by McNamee but the referee Mr Penton ruled the effort out for handball and then showed a yellow card to Kanyuka.

Swindon had two corners in the space of a minute after a good spell of pressure but the ball was eventualy cleared long downfield.

The home fans were angered when two marginal decisions went against Swindon players including a challenge where McNamee was penalised in the Leicester penalty area for obstruction when it appeared that he had been fouled.

The vsitors threatened briefly as the match entered two minutes of added time with Lloyd Dyer sending a rasping shot into the side netting and that proved to the last action of the first half.

Lee Peacock lets fly

Leicester kicked off playing towards their fans on the Stratton Bank and gained the first corner of the half when a shot by Matt Fryatt struck Morrison and went out for a corner with Phil Smith struggling to get across his goal after the deflection but the resulting cross was eventually cleared.

The noise volume was growing around the County Ground as the home fans tried to spur the Robins on to victory against second placed Leicester and Simon Cox went agonisingly close with an audacious lob from around the penalty area in the 55th minute.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 59th minute when Leicester captain Matt Oakley was allowed time and space after picking up a loose ball in midfield to rifle home an angled shot from just inside the penalty area to send the visiting fans into raptures.

Swindon responded with some good attacking play with Peacock being denied by Paul Henderson who caught a high cross by Jack Smith under pressure from Peacock.

Steve Howard wasted a gift wrapped opportunity in the 63rd minute when he headed straight at Phil Smith from only three yards and shortly afterwards Howard's frustration saw him get a yellow card for fouling Morrison while challenging for the ball.  Michael Pook also saw yellow for a silly foul near the managers benches shortly afterwards as the game warmed up.

The Swindon defence were grateful for Jack Smith's long clearance after a series of silly mistakes nearly cost them dearly as the ball pinged around with 20 minutes remaining.  However there was worse to come in the 75th minute when Phil Smith's indecision on the edge of the area saw him beaten to the ball by Matt Fryatt who flicked the ball over Smith before lashing it into the net.  Barry Corr replaced McNamee who had made little impact with under 15 minutes of the match remaining.

Lilian Nalis

Lilian Nalis wasted a great chance to pull a goal back in the 83rd minute when he received the ball on the edge of the area but his side footed effort was easily gathered by Henderson.

One minute later Swindon got a foothold back in the game when Simon Cox latched onto the ball after Lee Peacock had miskicked on the edge of the goal area and Town's leading goalscorer gleefully sidefooted into the net from close range for his 15th of the season.

Cox's opener proved to be the cue for all out attacking by the Robins with the Foxes defence under immense pressure. The comeback was completed in the 86th minute when Barry Corr crashed a powerful volley into the goal from the edge of the goal area following a long throw by Morrison which was flicked on.  The equaliser was greeted with delirious celebrations around the County Ground after all had apparently been lost but the Swindon team were determined to get something from this match.

There was one last chance for Simon Cox to go agonisingly close to grabbing a deserved third goal with a lob from the edge of the area but the ball went just over the bar. His effort proved to be the last main action before the final whistle blew to end a superb game in which Swindon retrieved a welcome point thanks to a 'never say die attitude' and the result also means that Swindon are now unbeaten in four League games.
