Swindon still have everything to play for after a superb 3-2 victory over a good Brentford side thanks to a brace from Billy Paynter and Danny Ward's goal on the stroke of half time,writes Adrian Smith

The win and results elsewhere kept Swindon's automatic promotion ambitions very much alive as the Robins completed the double over Brentford having beaten them by the same score in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. 

The victorious Town squad stayed on the County Ground pitch at the end of the match in appreciation of the support given by the Robins fans this season and were applauded by the home fans in the crowd of 10,190 

Brentford arrived having been unbeaten in 11 matches but that was brushed aside as Swindon took the lead in the 8^th minute when Billy Paynter tapped home from close range after Danny Ward had sent a fine ball into the six yard box. Paynter had been denied moments before when the visiting keeper Szczesny had tipped over a goalbound shot from Town's leading scorer.

Swindon continued to press for a second but were pegged back when David Hunt was allowed to fire home from the edge of the area at the second attempt in the 33^rd minute after his initial attempt had not been cleared from the edge of the area.

Danny Ward was rewarded for a good attacking display on the stroke of half time when he sidefooted home from ten yards after the Bees defence had allowed a cross from McGovern to reach the unmarked Ward.

Swindon's hopes of automatic promotion were given a boost in the 58^th minute when Billy Paynter put his side further ahead with a glancing header for his 28^th goal of the season. However Brentford responded within two minutes when a stumble in defence allowed Ben Strevens to fire home from close range.

Charlie Austin replaced Frank Nouble in the 70^th minute but he was unable to add to his goal tally for the season.

The home defence withstood late pressure from Brentford but the visitor's cause was not helped by a nasty looking injury to Pim Balkestein late as the match entered added time. Play was held up for over eight minutes before Balkestein left on a stretcher suffering apparently from an injury to his head.

Over 12 minutes of added time was played with one close shave when an effort by Mark Phillips landed on the roof of the net but that was the closest that the visitors came to equalising before the final whistle was blown on Town's last scheduled home League match.

The Robins have everything still to play for following defeats for promotion rivals Leeds and Millwall so next week's match at the New Den now assumes 'Match of the Season' proportions with a large away following guaranteed to head down to London in support of Danny Wilson's team.
