Four goals in the second half saw Swindon cruise to a 4-1 victory at Chippenham Town on Saturday afternoon.

Swindon had gone behind to an eighth minute opener from Sam Allison, before a double from Ben Joyce, a Billy Paynter strike and an own goal saw The Robins home.

Maurice Malpas included both Lilian Nalis and Lee Peacock in his starting line-up at Chippenham Town.

The Robins took a strong squad to Hardenhuish Park for what was their last Saturday warm-up game before the League One season gets under way on August 9.

Peacock returned to action for his first pre-season game after an Achilles injury whilst Lilian Nalis was handed his first opportunity to impress in the red and white of Swindon Town.

For the home side former Town defender Kevin Halliday began the game at left-back with Alex Rigley - a former member of the youth team - on the left wing.

Swindon began encouragingly, and in the opening minute a J-P McGovern cross was met by Peacock who was unable to break the deadlock.

The Bluebirds also started brightly, determined to show that they would not be out-muscled. Dave Pratt cut inside the Swindon defence from the left, to force a save out of Peter Brezovan in the Swindon goal.

It took just 8 minutes for the home side top open the scoring. A Luke Gullick shot was spilled by Brezovan to the feet of Sam Allison who followed up to stroke the ball home. Allison had the simplest of tap-ins, to give Chippenham a 1-0 lead.

Chippenham continued in confident form with Alex Rigley causing Swindon problems down the left. The Bluebirds forced two corners in quick succession, both having to be dealt with by Kanyuka and Ifil.

A determined forward burst from Kevin Amankwaah saw The Robins force a corner of their own. McGovern's centre found Jerel Ifil at the far post, but his header could only find the side netting.

Chris Snoddy in the home goal made a fine save with 23 minutes on the clock. A McGovern cross was met by Peacock on the volley with Snoddy saving well.

Swindon made a double change on the half hour with Peacock and Amankwaah replaced by Joyce and Jack Smith.

The home side could have been two up ten minutes before the break. After Hills had been robbed of possession on the right, the ball was squared to Rigley who did well before seeing his effort denied by a smothering Brezovan save.

A fine Swindon move evolved on 41 minutes with a McNamee - Joyce combination seeing the substitute fire in a decent effort which was palmed away by Snoddy for a corner.

Maurice Malpas made his third switch of the afternoon at half-time with Jamie Vincent coming on in place of trialist John Hills at left-back.

The first effort of the half saw Jack Smith test Snoddy on 48 minutes with a drive which was spilled, although soon cleared by the home defence.

Chippenham then broke away Dave Pratt racing away towards the box, although having been forced wide by Kanyuka, struck wide from 20 yards.

Swindon equalized on 50 minutes. After a McNamee shot from the left had been blocked inside the box, Ben Joyce took the ball on and fired home from close range. Joyce became the first goalscorer other than Simon Cox to score in the pre-season fixture programme.

After the goal Lilian Nalis was replaced by Blair Sturrock with McGovern moving inside and Sturrock taking up residence on the right flank.

On the hour Swindon were awarded a free-kick in a prime position. With Timlin and McGovern standing over the ball it was Timlin who stepped up and bent the ball narrowly wide of the right hand post from just outside the box.

Swindon went ahead on 62 minutes after another contribution from youngster Joyce. His run down the left saw the ball squared unselfishly across the face of the box for Paynter who scored his first goal of the pre-season campaign from seven yards out.

The visitors stretched their lead on 69 minutes after a defensive mix-up from The Bluebirds. A Timlin free-kick saw Tom Godsell and Cortez Belle challenge for the ball although it was Godsell who headed past Snoddy to make it 3-1.

Swindon added a fourth in the last minute of normal time. A ball cut back from Sturrock saw Joyce fire home from four yards to make it 4-1 before the whistle blew to bring an end to a reasonable afternoon's work for The Robins.
