REFEREE ON MATCH POSTPONEMENT

Posted on: Tue 28 Oct 2008

Match Referee Mr. C Boyeson explained his reasons behind Tuesday night's postponement at The Bank's Stadium.

Following adverse weather conditions during the afternoon the playing surface was left with a covering of snow, with the match official then deciding the game could not be started.

"We had to consider player safety and I wasn't confident that the game could gave got through ninety minutes," Boyeson said.

"If a player went up to head the ball then the ice may have gone into the players eyes - that was another factor.

"We looked at the forecast and there was due to be rain, but instead we had snow and the temperature was around one degree - and that wasn't going to get any better.

"In the interest of player safety I didn't feel the game could take place," he finished.

Town's evening was made worse with the Team Coach forced to pull over on the return trip down the M5 with a replacement coach called out to ferry the squad back to The County Ground.
