THE BIG CHANCE?

Posted on: Tue 02 Dec 2008

Caretaker boss David Byrne could hand a full debut to Callum Kennedy for this weekend's League One clash with Carlisle United.

With Michael Timlin set to miss the game with a one-match suspension, Byrne will be forced to shuffle his pack for the Cumbrians' visit.

Jamie Vincent is still recovering from a knee injury although is hopeful of returning to training over the Christmas period.

"I have three options," said Byrne. "I could bring Jack Smith over to left-back and bring Kevin Amankwaah back in at right-back.

"I could recall Yinka Casal or I could give Callum Kennedy his full debut. If I am totally honest I am swaying towards giving Callum a go because his performances in reserve games have merited an opportunity at first team level."

Another player who could be given further chance to impress in the coming weeks at a more senior level is winger Lloyd Macklin.

The winger has impressed for the Town's Under 18's and will hope to play his part in tonight's FA Youth Cup tie against Crystal Palace.

"Lloyd is one that will be knocking on the door. He has done tremendously well this season and has scored twenty goals in fifteen games.

"I would love to go and play six, seven or eight of the kids and give them games, but at this moment in time we can't do that given the amount of pro's we have here."
