Town have taken the decision to entirely cover The County Ground playing surface ahead of this weekend's game against Southend United.
The recent snowfall and freezing conditions saw the club move quickly to hire in a complete set of covers, at considerable cost, although Groundsman Marcus Cassidy is hoping the move will avoid a home call-off this weekend.
"We felt it was important to get the extra covers in," said Cassidy.
"Half of the pitch doesn't usually get any cover with the shade in front of the Don Rogers Stand, so we hired in a whole set of covers which had been utilised at Sandown racecourse.
"This means that the entire pitch is now covered up with some areas even doubled over.
"At the moment the pitch isn't actually frozen, so hopefully by being pro-active we have avoided any potential problems.
"We now hope that the forecast improves and temperatures aren't as bad as predicted on Friday."
