Town right-back Jack Smith knows his side will have to start pulling out results sooner rather than later ahead of a big few weeks for the club.
Smith is now a regular back in the starting line-up in defence, just behind Kevin Amankwaah in the right midfield role.
Former Watford defender Smith was baffled by another away defeat, but knows that Town need to turn performances into results.
"It seems to be the story of the season. We are in trouble but we are quite confident going into games and we frustrated Tranmere a little bit.
"They scored right at the start of the second half, but once they went down to ten men we found them very difficult to break down.
"I can't remember them having many chances, but if one of ours had gone in then it would have been a different game for us. We have to try and keep working hard and hopefully our luck will change.
Smith added: "No one remembers the performance if you play badly and win.
"Tuesday is a massive, massive game now. Martin Allen will have them fired up so we will have to be ready for it.
"The League is very tight at the moment and it will be a massive few weeks coming up for us as we play the likes of Cheltenham and Colchester."
