Joe Royle is to return to Oldham Athletic as manager until the end of the season.

The Latics parted company with John Sheridan on Sunday following Saturday's 6-2 defeat at MK Dons.

Royle, 59, has enjoyed previous success at Boundary Park having guided Oldham to

a League Cup final, two FA Cup semi-finals and the top flight during his first spell from 1982-94.

His first game in charge will be at home to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday 21^st March.
