ALL ABOUT ATTITUDE - TIMLIN

Posted on: Wed 18 Mar 2009

Swindon Town midfielder Michael Timlin shed light on Town's sparkling performance against Southend this evening praising the attitude of his teammates during the game as the driving force behind the win.

Insisting that Danny Wilson had told the players that it was when the performance levels dropped that they would find themselves in real trouble.

"We could have picked out one hundred things right with tonight's performance but the one thing that was most important was our attitude, we knew when to play and when not to. We knew when to hook it clear and if there was a tackle to be won, we won it.

"The most important thing from tonight was getting the three points. The one thing the Gaffer had been saying to us is that we've been playing well, but if the performances weren't good that's when there would be a problem."

Towns work rate was particularly impressive as they dominated and took control against the Shrimpers. "The Gaffer said as long as we keep working hard, keeping the work rate up when we play the sides around us we will take points off them."

Two nil up inside 20 minutes, Timlin admitted that in previous weeks Town hadn't come flying out of the blocks as they should have.

"It's probably the first time we've started the game so well, and that's benefited us.

"The last few games we haven't started well like at Colchester and Leeds. If we start the games well then we give ourselves a good chance of winning the games, we need to make sure we start and finish the game in a professional way."

Looking forward to Saturday's clash against Hereford, Town's tough tackling midfielder pointed to picking up maximum points to ensure Danny Wilson's side can start to put together a good run of results.

"Obviously them (Hereford) losing tonight has helped us, we have to make sure we take this result into Saturday and make sure we don't get complacent its a big couple of weeks coming up because we're playing all the teams around us.

"As long as we carry on being professional then there is no reason why we can't go on a good run.

"It's not only the three points, the clean sheet is massively important because you never know it might come down to goal difference."

Reflecting upon his new partnership with Owain Tudor Jones, Timlin can see the partnership being a fruitful one.

"I'd like to think we're bouncing off each other well. He's a big lad, tends to win the headers and it helps me to just pick up the second balls.

"Hopefully the two of us can keep this going, helping the team to another win this weekend."
