THIRTEEN PLAYERS RELEASED

Posted on: Tue 05 May 2009

Swindon Town have released thirteen players following the end of the 2008/09 season.

The players met individually with Town boss Danny Wilson on Tuesday morning where they were informed of their futures.

The Club would like to take the opportunity of those released players for their efforts during their time at Swindon and wish them every success in their future careers.

Goalkeeper Peter Brezovan has been released following a three-year stay at The County Ground. The stopper suffered an injury in his first season, before recovering to be offered a new deal. In total he made 66 league starts for The Robins.

Midfielder Chris Allen will also leave the club after making just ten league appearances for the club. The 20-year old Devizes-based player's final appearance for Town came off the bench against Cheltenham Town in March in League One.

Irish front man Barry Corr will not be offered a new deal after a frustrating season with injury. Corr, whose previous clubs include Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday, is currently recovering from shoulder surgery. In total he scored ten goals in seventeen league starts during a two-season stay.

Striker Ben Joyce will also be departing after making one first team appearance this term, which was a start at Bristol Rovers in November 2008. Joyce's former clubs include Aston Villa and Plymouth Argyle.

Lilian Nalis made his final appearance in a Swindon shirt as he Captained the side at Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon. Nalis had announced his plans to retire from the English game last week and will now return to France before deciding on his future.

Michael Pook has also been released after a long association with his hometown club. The former youth team Captain rose through the ranks to break into the first team, making his debut in a Football League Trophy tie at Boston United.

Fellow Frenchman Hamdi Razak will also be leaving Swindon after a short stay as a Robin. Razak arrived on a short-term contract at the end of the January transfer window and made three appearances as a substitute, against Colchester United, Crewe Alexandra and Oldham Athletic.

Jack Smith has not been offered new terms and will now be forced to look for a new club. The right-back joined in the summer of 2005 from Watford and was signed by former Town boss Andy King.

A versatile player, Smith scored four goals this term with the last of which coming at home to Stockport County in March.

Striker Blair Sturrock, who spent the latter part of the season on loan at Blue Square Premier side Torquay United, has also been told he will not be offered a new deal at The County Ground.

Sturrock first arrived at Swindon in December 2006 and made fifty league appearances for The Robins.

Experienced defender Jamie Vincent will not be offered a new deal. Vincent arrived in the summer of 2006 and made a total of 84 league starts for the club.

Tom Evans

Youngsters Tom Evans, Jake Hyde and Sam Morris have also been released after failing to break into the first team during their one-season stay as professionals.

Evans spent time on loan with Truru City this term, whilst Morris (Swindon Supermarine) and Hyde (Weymouth) also had temporary spells away from The County Ground to secure first team football.
