THETOWNEND.COM SPONSORSHIP

Posted on: Tue 09 Jun 2009

TheTownEnd.com have agreed to sponsor new signing Gordon Greer for the 2009/10 season.

Greer made a big impact during a 19-game loan spell during the second half of the 2008/09 campaign and his performances helped Swindon to secure League One safety His efforts did not go unnoticed by Town supporters or management, with the defender Captaining the side during the latter stages of his term.

The former Blackburn Rovers centre-back will officially become a Town player on 1st July and is set to be a big part of Danny Wilson's plans next term.

Sam Binstead, a regular contributor to thetownend.com, commented:

"As a group, we decided to sponsor Gordon because we appreciate that he'll quite possibly become a key player for us next season. That and the fact that there's a few (wannabe) Scots on the TheTownEnd.com who relished the chance to sponsor a player from the homeland!

"It was apparent from his loan spell last season that he was the missing link in the defence and to us there's no doubt that Gordon was one of the key influences in keeping Town in League One. For us, there's really no better way of showing our support for the player (and the club) by sponsoring them."

The group are looking forward to an improved 2009/10 season on the pitch for The Robins, and are also hoping to see Greer handed the Captain's armband.

"Next season we'd hope to see a marked improvement both on the pitch and in the League table and we're sure that Danny Wilson is the man to do that.

He added: "If Gordon's last few games of last season are anything to go by, then maybe he'll be given the Captain's armband as well."
