Town newboy Alan O'Brien believes experience gained with Newcastle United will serve him well as he prepares for life in League One after signing a two-year contract with The Robins.
O'Brien, who also has five international caps with the Republic of Ireland to his name, joined Newcastle as a youngster before progressing to the first team at St. James' Park.
"I got taken on by Newcastle when I was about sixteen," he explained, speaking to STFC World on Monday evening.
"A few clubs were looking at me but they (Newcastle) had a really good Academy Director at the time and I thought he would improve me as a player. That's where I then wanted to go.
"Winning the youth title came along in one of my first seasons there and it was a great experience.
He added: "I got a few chances with the first team and spent quite a bit of time with the first team squad, being involved on the bench and in games.
"I didn't feel there was much pressure on me at the time, you just go out and try and do well. I really enjoyed my whole time with Newcastle, but am looking forward to doing my best here at Swindon."
