TIMLIN WELCOMES AOB

Posted on: Wed 08 Jul 2009

Town midfielder Michael Timlin is hoping to renew an old partnership this term following the addition of Alan O'Brien to the Swindon ranks.

Timlin partnered O'Brien in the Republic of Ireland youth ranks, whilst the two players were with Fulham and Newcastle United respectively.

And with the two now bidding for a starting place in the Swindon midfield, Timlin was delighted to be reunited with his former International teammate.

"When he first came down to the training ground to have a look around the place - I went over and said 'hello'. He seemed a bit surprised to see me but it was good to put him at ease.

"I know the type of boy he is and the other players will get on with him well. He is a great lad."

Timlin continued: "I started off playing for the Republic of Ireland Under 17's with Alan and we played together through the age-groups right up until the Under 21's.

"It was a good balance, because I played on the left of the central pairing and Alan was outside me on the wing. We struck up a good partnership.

"He will bring a lot of pace to the team, in addition to what we already have with Macca, Marshy and Lloyd and I am sure he will bring a lot of qualities to the team."

Town's former Fulham man has also acknowledged the Manager's methodical approach to transfer dealings this summer.

"The Manager has stressed the point that it is about the quality of player he brings in not the number of players.

He added: "We don't need to be in a rush to get bodies in, it is better that the Gaffer takes his time and gets in players that will benefit us. Alan O'Brien is a great example of that."
