SMITH ON RETURN TO ACTION

Posted on: Mon 14 Sep 2009

Town goalkeeper Phil Smith believes The Robins are heading in the right direction after a 1-1 draw at home to Colchester United.

Smith, making his 80th start in a Swindon shirt, was a late call-up into the starting eleven after an injury to David Lucas in the pre-match warm-up.

The stopper made several good stops in the game and was named Man of he Match by Matchball Sponsors Ridgemill. Speaking to the official website after game, he offered his thoughts on the encounter.

"Today was a game that this time last year we might not have got a point out of. We did well defensively and had a few chances going forward, but it's good to keep the unbeaten run going," said Smith.

"There wasn't a lot of time to get sorted but that's just about preparation. All players know that you have to prepare properly and when I got the call I was ready for it.

"Now we can look forward to the game against Walsall and the confidence is still building. The lads are looking solid across the park and the whole squad is going in the right direction."
