Lee Peacock made his first appearance in a Town shirt since March as The Robins took on Southampton in the Totesport.com Combination. Town also included experience midfield duo Craig Easton and Michael Timlin in the heart of the midfield with Jakub Jesionkowski starting in between the sticks. The Saints included former Swindon loanee Lee Holmes in their side, with Southampton boss Alan Pardew looking on from the sidelines.

It was Holmes who had the first real opportunity of the game as his stinging left foot shot from inside the area was well-held by Jesionkowski on his near post.

Craig Easton Captained the side and had to deal with the likes of Simon Gillett and Anthony Pulis, son of Stoke City Manager Tony, in central midfield.

Elliot Knight, a Town second year youth team scholar, had to be at his best to produce a fine block to deny Jacob Mellis with The Robins able to clear the resulting corner with 12 minutes on the clock.

The Robins took the lead with sixteen minutes played. A fine through ball from Timlin found Easton who lifted his first time shot over the advancing Forecast who was unable to prevent the ball from finding the back of the net.

Town should have doubled the lead on 27 minutes with Lloyd Macklin presenting Lee Peacock with an opportunity to score on his return. Macklin outstripped his marker on the left and crossed for Peacock who hit the post from eight yards out.

The Saints got back on level terms two minutes later with Papa Waigo N'Diaye collecting a through ball before firing low under Jesionkowski from just inside the box.

The visitors extended their lead ten minutes before the break with Jesionkowski unable to hold a shot, with Jacob Mellis - on loan from Premier League giants Chelsea - €on hand to fire the loose ball into the empty net.

It was 3-1 on 39 minutes with Simon Gillett collected a ball on the edge of the box and with Town unable to clear, the midfielder slotted the ball home to give his side a two-goal lead going into the half-time interval.

Swindon started the half looking to reduce the deficit after conceding twice in the closing stages of the first period.

Jack Mellis linked well with N'Diaye four minutes in but after finding space, the midfielder could only blaze over Jesionkowski's bar.

Billy Bodin then showed tremendous skill on the left flank and his pass found Marshall and the former Eastleigh winger saw his shot blocked by the Saints defence.

Bodin should have tested Forecast ten minutes into the second period but saw his side-footed effort sail over the bar from the edge of the box following an unselfish cutback from Peacock.

Mark Marshall

David Byrne made the first change of the night for The Robins on 56 minutes with Jordan Record coming on to replace Lloyd Macklin. The switch saw Bodin drop back to left-midfield, with Record taking his place alongside Peacock in the front line with Marshall switching to right midfield.

Michael Timlin then came close to getting his name on the scoresheet, but after his initial effort was blocked, Jordon Record saw his volley from the edge of the box cannon off the crossbar and behind.

Timlin then fired over a free-kick before Peacock almost found the net on his return to action. After seeing his initial header strike the bar, the front man followed up to challenge Ryan Tafazolli for the ball, with the defender getting the final touch for an own goalwith nineteen minutes remaining.
