SWINDON SUPPORT WORLD CUP BID

Posted on: Mon 28 Sep 2009

Swindon Town's County Ground could host World Cup football teams should Bristol be included in a successful England bid for the 2018 World Cup.

Bristol is one of 16 applicant cities hoping to be included in England's bid and a redeveloped 25,000 capacity County Ground could act as a team training venue if Bristol is selected, with teams staying just outside Swindon.

Manager Danny Wilson said "This is a fantastic opportunity for the football club and for Swindon as a town. To have the best teams in the world training at our stadium would be a great honour and it'll be great for Swindon Town to be a part of that. We're delighted to Back Bristol's bid and hope all Town fans will do as much as they can too."

Meanwhile for more information they can visit www.bristol2018.net and follow the latest on the bid through Facebook and Twitter (@Bristol2018). The cities selected by England 2018 will be announced on 14th December 2009. Bristol could host a number a group games and possibly a Quarter-Final at Bristol City's proposed new 44,000 seat stadium. The County Ground is home to Swindon Town FC and has regularly hosted the England Under 21 and Under 18 teams in the past.

The stadium is scheduled to undergo a major redevelopment in 2012-13 that will increase the capacity to 25,000.
