Danny Wilson admits the reserve performances of Charlie Austin and Billy Paynter have given him 'food for thought' ahead of tomorrow's trip to Tranmere Rovers.

Both Austin and Paynter scored twice in the 4-1 triumph over Reading on Tuesday, and the manager was impressed with their performances.

"You can't complain about four goals between the two of them can you?" he said.

"In the reserves you've got to go and do the business no matter what you're up against, and they did it very well.

"It's given us food for thought for Saturday because we're not hitting the back of the net, so we have to be aware of everything that's in front of us."

However, Wilson would not be drawn on whether the pairing would be given a chance to impress at Prenton Park tomorrow; preferring to emphasise the importance of creating chances for whoever may start up front.

"We're still trying to get the combinations and the personnel right.

"More importantly, as I said on Saturday, it's about putting the ball into areas where the strikers can take those opportunities, and I don't think we've done that enough in the last few games to point the finger at the strikers.

"It's important that we get back to where we were early in the season and start giving those opportunities to the strikers again.

"It has been a priority on the training ground as we've got into the habit of over passing and not taking the opportunity to put balls in areas where defenders feel vulnerable."
