Match Preview: Southend United v Town
Date: Saturday 28th January
Competition: League One
Venue: Roots Hall
Kick-Off: 3pm
The Lowdown
A combination of injuries, suspensions and poor form have seen Southend United slide down the League One table in recent weeks, and Steve Tilson's side currently sit just four points above the relegation zone in 16th place.
The Shrimpers made a poor start to the season, and fans had to wait until the sixth match of the season to see their side register their first win against Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road.
They then gained a creditable point against Leeds United at Elland Road in early September - which, having drawn their opening four matches of the season, proved to be their last draw to date.
Unfortunately for Shrimpers fans, there were only six wins from the following 17 games, as Tilson's men struggled for form.
Goals have been the biggest problem for Saturday's hosts, and will continue to be so, following the sale of top scorer Lee Barnard to Southampton. Barnard had scored 15 of Southend's total of 30 goals so far this term.
Sean Morrison is the main connection between the clubs, having spent a successful two months on loan at Roots Hall, from which he has recently returned.
Town fans will have fond memories of the last meeting between the sides, as Danny Wilson's side ran out 2-1 winners over the Shrimpers at The County Ground back in August thanks to goals from Scott Cuthbert and former loanee Tope Obadeyi.
Ticket Information
Town are expecting to take around 400-500 supporters to Roots Hall for the match.

Team News - Swindon Town
Danny Wilson is likely to stick with the line-up that disposed of Leeds United so convincingly on Tuesday evening.
Red hot striking partnership Charlie Austin and Billy Paynter will be hoping to continue their purple patch in front of goal at Roots Hall, and Gordon Greer and Scott Cuthbert will continue their similarly impressive partnership at the heart of defence.

Swindon Town Manager, Danny Wilson:
"The performance against Leeds will take some beating, but I wouldn't be me if I didn't want more.
"It's a totally different game on Saturday because everyone is expecting us to win the game, whereas on Tuesday not many people were expecting us to get something from it.
"Southend have got quality players in their team and like any team down there, the only thing they're lacking is a bit of confidence.
"They won't fear us at all, and we cannot afford to be complacent in any way."
Team News - Southend United
Manager Steve Tilson will be without midfield playmaker Alan McCormack who picked up his 10th booking of the season in the 2-0 defeat at Millwall on Tuesday evening.
Another doubt is defender Osei Sankofa who was withdrawn through illness at half time at The Den.

Southend United Manager, Steve Tilson:
"Unfortunately, things don't seem to be going our way at the moment.
"I couldn't fault the lad's effort and commitment, but the bottom line is, we have a lot of boys out there trying to do a man's job."
