MAURICE EYES NEW ADDITIONS
Swindon Town boss Maurice Malpas has revealed he is set to launch a bid for an unnamed Championship full-back as preparations continue ahead of the 2008/09 campaign.
The manager met with the media on Tuesday morning and offered the latest news on the transfer front, as Town prepare to table a bid for some Championship talent.
"I am speaking to a club from the Coca-Cola Championship about a player. We have spoken over the last few days - the club in question has been very good, but they now want us to go back and put in a concrete offer.
"The player is under contract and the Chairman has told me there is some money available if the player is right for Swindon Town.
"The deal would be dictated by the budget we have. There would be money up front, followed by some add ons because we don't have big money to go and splash just for the hell of it."
Malpas has though shown his appreciation for the Town Board following a number of changes that have been made at SN1 over the summer months.
"The Board have been fantastic. We have brought in a new fitness and conditioning coach, money has been invested in the playing surface and a few other changes have been made behind the scenes that I have asked for. There has also been money invested in the likes of Anthony McNamee and Simon Cox.
"I know our supporters want movement in the transfer market, some perhaps waiting to see who we bring in before committing to a season ticket. The market is slow at the moment and speaking to other managers, they are in the same situation.
"Things will speed up as the weeks progress and we have to make sure we bring players in who can improve the squad, that's the key."
