Town Assistant Manager Peter Shirtliff keeps you updated on the week's events at The County Ground in 'Get Shirty', available right here at Swindontownfc.co.uk every Friday morning.

Former Republic of Ireland Under-21 International Alan Sheehan began his career at Leicester City having been spotted by a scout whilst playing for Belvedere FC in 2003.

A free-kick specialist, Sheehan made his first team debut for Craig Levein's side in the final game of the 2004/05 season against Plymouth Argyle, but struggled to cement a place in the following season and was sent out on loan to Mansfield Town.

He became a first team regular at Leicester during their 2007/08 relegation season in the Championship, and joined Leeds United on loan in January of last year until the end of the season.

After rejecting the Foxes' offer of a new contract at the end of the 2007/08 season, he signed a three-year deal at Leeds United but endured a tough introduction to permanent life at Elland Road.

He was sent off at The County Ground for a two-footed lunge on Jack Smith during Town's 3-1 defeat to Leeds in September 2008, and then suffered numerous injury setbacks which stifled first team opportunities at Elland Road.

Sheehan played three games on loan at Crewe Alexandra in March of last year but returned to Leeds to prepare for the 2009/10 season.

In September of this season he spent a successful loan spell at Oldham Athletic, playing nine games and in the process alerting a number of higher division clubs with Nottingham Forest rumoured to have been interested in securing his services.

However he returned to Leeds in mid-October where he has struggled to hold down a first team berth.

Sheehan has been capped five times by Republic of Ireland Under 21's, scoring once.

The defender will remain at Swindon Town until the end of the season after having his loan deal extended in January 2010.
