STFC Study Centre
Since 1998 over 2,300 young people in Swindon have benefited from out of school courses run in two purpose built computer centres and a further 2,000 from football focussed fun challenge days.
The focus is on motivating underachieving young people, raising literacy and numeracy standards and developing key skills such as working with others, problem solving and using computers.
All this is done in a friendly, fun atmosphere that provides a positive experience for young people and encourages them to improve their own learning.
FACT 1
Not all young people do well at school. For thousands of youngsters the STFC Study Centre, an independent registered charity, has made a big difference to their education and their lives by teaching them outside school at their local football club.
FACT 2
Most young people do like football. Imagine doing lessons at a football club, meeting the players, touring the ground, using top quality IT equipment and playing Robosoccer. Young people's confidence, attitude to learning and results can be dramatically improved simply by linking education and football.

"It was so gratifying to see different a different group of children, who perhaps do not find learning so easy, grow in confidence and have a chance to 'shine' - and 'shine' they did."
Head Teacher, Wiltshire Primary School.
"We were really impressed with the professionalism of your operation and particularly how well organised it was. All of the staff and pupils enjoyed themselves immensely."
PE and ICT Coordinator, Swindon School.
"I'm proud of what I have achieved. It helped me to learn to believe in myself, be confident and go for it. They told us all the things that would happen if you could be bothered, so I thought for once I'd go for something I really wanted to get."
Playing For Success Student
"In the time James has spent here, he has improved immensely with his computer skills. He now knows how to send and receive e mails, how to use power point, which is a widely used presentation programme which I see used at work all the time. He has had the opportunity to do some public speaking, never an easy thing, and has learned to prioritise his time. Well done Swindon Town FC."
Parent, Wootton Bassett School.
