Roger Jones

Roger Jones joined Swindon Town after an established 20-year playing career as a goalkeeper, during which he made over 700 appearances in the Football League.

Born in Upton-upon-Severn, Jones began his career with Portsmouth before joining AFC Bournemouth, where he enjoyed a successful spell making 160 appearances for The Cherries.

He then made a move to Blackburn Rovers and enjoyed an impressive six year spell with the Ewood Park club, making 242 appearances.

In 1976 he signed for North East giants Newcastle United before joining Stoke City, where he made over 100 appearances.

He signed for Derby County in 1980 before spells with Birmingham City and York City.

After retiring from playing, Jones became goalkeeping coach under Denis Smith at Sunderland before linking up with former Sunderland staff member Malcolm Crosby at Swindon.
