MATCH REPORT: Mansfield Town 1-3 Swindon Town

Reds Cruise To Victory On The Road

14 October 2017

Swindon Town produced another impressive away day display to beat Mansfield Town 3-1 at The One Call Stadium this afternoon.

Amine Linganzi chose a perfect time to open his account for the club as he found the back of the net inside the opening five minutes.

John Goddard gave the Reds some breathing space on the stroke of half-time with his first goal of the season, and Luke Norris was successful from twelve-yards after the interval to make it a very good day at the office with Danny Rose adding a late consolation for the home side.

Dave Flitcroft elected to make two changes with Kaiyne Woolery and Kellan Gordon dropping out, and Paul Mullin and John Goddard both coming in.

Luke Norris was once again the man chosen to lead the line in a 4-2-3-1 formation with the likes of Donal McDermott and Ellis Iandolo among the options on the bench.

Town were out to bounce back following defeat the week before and they made the perfect start to proceedings.

With just four minutes on the clock, Matty Taylor whipped a free-kick into the box after Mullin was barged over and Amine Linganzi was on hand to stab home his first-ever goal for the club.

That fast start helped to settle the visitors down and they were content with being patient in their play and frustrating their hosts.

And Town would go on to carve out more chances of their own as Norris saw his effort kept out by the legs of Conrad Logan, before the striker retrieved the ball to set up Mullin who could only blaze the rebound over the bar.

Olly Lancashire showed a cool head to deny Danny Rose with a superb last-ditch tackle, while Reice Charles-Cook got down superbly to push away Jimmy Spencer's well-struck half-volley from distance.

Goddard then fired over from 20-yards and Alex MacDonald warmed the palms of Charles-Cook with a firm drive as the game began to open up in terms of chances.

It looked likely that there would only be one goal between the sides at the break but Town had other ideas.

Taylor was able to fizz a ball across the face of goal and Goddard was able to flick the cross into the back of the net to put his side firmly in the driving seat.

Swindon were forced to weather an early storm in the second-half as Mansfield looked to get back in the game, and they went close with Lee Angol seeing his powerful volley tipped over the bar by Charles-Cook.

But Town soon regained control of the game and they were able to extend their lead further with 54 minutes played.

Hayden White was adjudged to have fouled Norris inside the area and the striker stepped up to stroke home from the spot to notch his eighth goal of the season.

Town were in cruise control and they were restricting Mansfield to very few openings, although Rose did slice an effort wide.

Charles-Cook had little to do but what he did have to do he dealt with it well as he got down to smother Angol's flicked effort towards goal.

With the game coming to a close, Town decided to introduce some fresh legs as Donal McDermott replaced Keshi Anderson.

Another change soon followed with Kaiyne Woolery replacing the impressive Luke Norris in the closing stages.

Mansfield were able to pull a goal back in the dying minutes thanks to Rose's effort, but it proved to be too little too late as Town ran out comfortable winners.
