Di Canio - We Need More

8 August 2012

TOWN finished their pre-season campaign with a defeat as Crystal Palace ran out 1-0 winners at The County Ground. Afterwards, manager Paolo Di Canio spoke to the waiting media...

On the performance…

The lads have to understand a little more and make better decisions. At times we switched off a little and we have to improve that. We don’t have long until Brighton now but it wasn’t enough. We have to play for 90 minutes to save the result. Obviously it was a friendly and we played against a team at a different level and we tried to play football.

The penalty decision…

There was a defensive mistake and we should have stayed narrower. That left their player one on one with Wes but that’s where we needed to switch on more. Against high-level sides we cannot make those mistakes.

On facing Brighton…

We need to extend our desire and discipline before we face Brighton next week. I have seen Brighton play and in my opinion they have much quality. At the moment we have to try and work on out mentality and make sure we play for the whole game, not just little periods.

On preparing for the season…

I am sure we will be ready for the League One season. We know the quality will be higher and we have to be ready mentally and physically. Tonight we created chances but we have to work together and keep building. The first 45 minutes is what we have to build on.

Options from the bench…

The good players are the ones who do the best in the smallest amount of time. The players must take their opportunity and show full concentration even if they only if they come on for a few minutes from the bench.
