Di Canio - We Played So Well

21 August 2012

TOWN manager Paolo Di Canio spoke to the media after his team beat Crawley 3-0 at The County Ground...

On the win…

It was a very good win tonight. Crawley are a solid team with a good system but we played so well this evening. We played as one body, one spirit. We had one target and worked so hard around the field.

On Devera’s display…

I am especially pleased for Joe because he looked like he was a natural right-back tonight. Sometimes he has hesitated but tonight he did very well and I am really pleased for him.

On the goals…

We should have finished with six or seven. We were the only team that created many chances. To be honest there was only one save that Wes had to make and they didn’t really threaten us at all. We should have scored more.

On a perfect display…

Today was the best performance in my time with the club. We controlled the game. It was a team performance and now we must continue in the same direction. For me it was fantastic tonight and we made so many chances without risk to our goal as well. The mistake we made was one in 94 minutes and my team were close to perfection tonight. Physically the team are working so hard, but I expect this kind of performance.

On De Vita’s goal…

Once again I am very happy for him and he works hard to give us the balance and the quality. He scored a good goal tonight and that will give him an extra lift. I hope that will give him more courage to attack the back post. It was a strike in an amazing way and I am happy for him.

On defensive solidity…

We work very hard on the details and in training sessions. We have to always remember that when we defend well like this it comes from the goalkeeper, the back four but also the midfield and the front two. The defence are the last pillars in front of our goal, but we have scored six goals in three games and not conceded. We are a very good team but we need to keep both feet on the ground
