Di Canio - We Were Warriors

28 August 2012

PAOLO Di Canio was full of praise for ‘his warriors’ after seeing his side battle time and time again to win 4-3 at The Britannia Stadium.

A hat-trick from James Collins sealed a place in round three for the Robins who produced a special performance to win away at Premier League Stoke City.

He said: “They were warriors. I felt so much positive energy today and we won the game in such a way, the last minute was something special.

“I was a fanatical fan when I was young and tonight was a special moment for the club and our fans.

“The players showed tremendous quality and we have taken great experience from that. I never lost my belief that we would win that game.

“I believe we can cause any team a problem and it was such a great performance this evening. The players put so much effort in throughout the 120 minutes. I can only thank my players – every one of them. A year ago I called them Chihuahuas but now they are warriors.

“When you win a game like this it is a special moment. It is a great moment for the club but now I want to think about Preston on Sunday. The players deserve to enjoy the evening but for sure, from tomorrow, they must think about the next game.”

The manager was also delighted for summer signing James Collins who scored his first treble in a Town shirt, playing his part in a momentous night for the Town.

“He scored his goals and he was clever. He is young and won his battles. The goal at the end showed heart and desire, and quality. He did an amazing job.”

With round three ahead for the club, who would the manager like to face in round three?

“Another away tie at a big club would be a big moment for us. My main focus is the league and now we will focus on Sunday at Preston. I will see what the cup brings, but first the league.”
