Wes - A Point To Prove

8 August 2012

WES Foderingham is relishing the opportunity to face his former employers when Crystal Palace visit SN1 this evening.

Speaking at Tuesday afternoon’s press call, the Town stopper was keen to show Palace what they have been missing.

“Obviously it’s against my former club so I’ll be looking to put in a good performance in against them,” he said. “Towards the end of last season Nick Watkins told me we’d be playing them in pre-season so I’ve been looking forward to it.

“I think when you leave a club there’s always a point to prove. I’m going to try and prove a point to say that I could have broken through there. Obviously at the time they had Julian Speroni who for me is the best goalkeeper in the Championship and Lewis Price is there, he’s doing really well - he’s a Welsh international - so I’m looking to put a good performance in and show them that I could have done a job there as well.

“Julian had the number one locked down for a couple of years. I wanted to play football and I was good enough to play football in the league and that’s why I decided to come here.”

Foderingham also assessed his own progress before discussing how important tonight’s game is as practise before the Capital One Cup tie against Brighton.

He said: “On a personal level I feel I’ve come on a lot in a short period of time and the matchday exposure has probably been the key factor behind that and working closely with the squad every day has helped me become a better goalkeeper.

“It’s a perfect game. We’re looking to win against Brighton and we’ll be playing a similar side in Crystal Palace. They like to play football as well so it will be a good warm up for the cup.”
