Thompson - We Can Win

19 December 2012

NATHAN Thompson believes that Town can register three points against Tranmere Rovers in the Festive fixture this Friday.

After registering three points at Boundary Park on Saturday, the Academy product feels that their record against the top teams will ensure that the Town will go into the game full of confidence.

“It was a very good win at Oldham,” he said. “We’ve gone about things exactly the same way as whether we win, lose or draw. It will give us some confidence going into the game with Tranmere which is obviously going to be a very big game but it’s one that we feel we need to win and it’s one we can win.

“It’s not going to be easy but against the top teams we seem to put on a good performance and we can do that again. We’ll go into it with optimum confidence and be looking to that win.

The defender has been playing as part of a back four which has only conceded four goals in the last seven games and Thompson believes that their recent record will stand them in good stead further down the line.

He continued: “The gaffer made the point the other day that we’ve got the third best defensive record in the league and it’s a base that we need to build on. If we’re good at the back and if we can build on scoring goals up front it’s a winning formula and we can go on and do well this season with that.

“Last season we managed to successfully build some momentum and we seemed to fly away from other sides so if we can build on that in the next couple of weeks and get some winning momentum going into the new year then we’ll take off like last season.”

Finally, the defender says that he is relishing the prospect of playing on Boxing Day after spending Christmas Day with his family.

“We all come together,” he said. “We’re quite a close family so we’ll all be there then mum and dad will be at the Boxing Day game and we’ll celebrate together.

“It’s something that I’m looking forward to hopefully being involved on Boxing Day. It’s definitely something that’s new to me but it’s something that I’m looking forward to."
