THE final installment of the official website's look back at some memorable Town Youth Cup moments. Today's focus is on Swindon's debut in the competition.
The Town’s first involvement in the Youth Cup goes right back to October 1952 in the first season the competition was staged.
Drawn in the second round against Longfleet St. Mary’s from Poole in Dorset, Swindon Town ‘A’ were beaten 2-1 at The County Ground.
After a goal-less first half during which Longfleet had a goal disallowed, Swindon took the lead through Guy who fired home from close range. Despite a period of Town pressure, a penalty from Stevens on the hour mark put the visitors level. Seven minutes from time, Lockyer headed home the winning goal.
