Striker sets target for 2012/13

SUMMER signing James Collins says he is determined to make a goal-scoring impact during the 2012/13 campaign, as he looks to better his 16-goal total of last season.

After netting three times in pre-season so far, Collins set out his aims for the 2012/13 season after a productive last campaign with Shrewsbury Town who won automatic promotion alongside the Robins.

He told STFC Player: “I always say that I want to better the season before. I did that last season and I got 16 goals so I want to do that this season. Whether it be 17 goals or 27 goals, as long as I beat last year I’ll be happy!

“The ability we’ve got out wide is brilliant. With Gary (Roberts) coming in, he’s got a great record of assists. Matt Ritchie of course last season was the main man with assists and goals and Luke (Rooney) has got great ability too so if you can’t get on the end of crosses from them then you’re in trouble.”

Looking back on a testing pre-season so far, Collins believes that the squad is coming together nicely for the new campaign.

He said: “We’re looking fit and strong for the up and coming season that’s for sure.

“You have to go into every game as if it’s your most important and obviously getting a couple of goals in the first tour game was great for me. The gaffer wants 100% no matter what so you’ve always got to be on your game.”
