Midfielder on friendly win
Town midfielder Simon Ferry believes that the current squad have started to gel since their first pre-season outing in Italy two weeks ago.
Speaking after Town’s 4-0 win over Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday evening, Ferry told the official website that things are starting to come together for Paolo Di Canio’s side.
“I think you can see from the first game to tonight how much better the boys have got,” he said. “We’ve gotten to know each other, we’ve gotten to know each others games and obviously working with the gaffer every day, the boys are starting to understand what he wants. We’re taking that into games and we’re looking like a good team.
“It was a good win against good opposition -Forest Green were a good team I thought. It’s nice for the boys to get another win and its good to get in the habit in pre-season and hopefully we can take that into the new campaign.”
The Scotsman also found himself on the scoresheet after netting Town’s fourth of the evening.
“It was a great goal wasn’t it - got to be up there for goal of the season,” he joked. “ I think it took about six deflections before it went in but Rafa (De Vita) just saw me from the corner, pulled it back and I just tried to get something on it.”
Finally, Ferry spoke positively about the increased competition created by the additions to the squad over the summer.
He said: “All the good clubs have got competition for places and we shouldn’t be any different. If there’s a chance to get good players in then the club should definitely go and get them and they’ve definitely brought good players in so it’s up to me to challenge them for a spot.”
