Swindon eased to a 6-1 victory but Williams believes that it was important to get some vital match practice following the two-week tour of Italy.
“It was a decent run out,” he said. “We had a bit of training on Wednesday morning and we’ve had a few days back in England now so it was nice to test ourselves in the English climate after being out in Italy for two weeks.
“I think in the first half especially, we did quite well - we kept the ball and created a few chances. The second half wasn’t quite as good but to be fair to Weston they kept the ball very well. They were a good passing side and it was a good test for us.”
The former Yeovil frontman was also delighted to get his name on the scoresheet after scoring Town’s second of the evening.
“It was great play from Gary Roberts down the wing I just had to tap it in really. It was a good move from the team and it looked like a decent goal so it was nice to tap it in to finish it off.
“It’s always different to play in a match, no matter how much running you do. When the game starts that’s when you really get your fitness and you start comparing yourself to where you need to be. I still feel a bit short but I’m getting there.
“I felt a lot better than I have in any of the other games so hopefully I’m making steady progress.”
