PDC - I Am Angry

20 November 2012

TOWN manager Paolo Di Canio spoke to the waiting media after his side's defeat to Brentford.

On the defeat…
I am angry. Three or four members of the side didn’t perform and they have an average mentality. It was the same against Leyton Orient. This is the level. Tonight was an opportunity to get wood for the chimney for the winter. We always said we have to finish this season in mid-table, or higher, but we will see what’s going on. We beat Yeovil at the weekend but couldn’t perform in the next game.

On the goal…
Nathan Thompson made a mistake for the goal but he gave his heart for the game. He made a tactical mistake but some others didn’t give their all tonight. We know teams will come here ready to suffer all game. We have too many young players with a snobby attitude; they have one fantastic game and cannot recharge their batteries. That’s the difference between us and an established side like Brentford. They took their chance.

On the players…
The players didn’t look 100% focused tonight. We didn’t create a lot straightaway but we did create a few opportunities late on in the first half. I thought we were the only team who looked like winning the game, but we didn’t get the result. The negative energy went against us tonight. Some of our players did well, but they have to be tougher.

On expectation levels…
This is our first season back in League One and we are in the top eight which is a miracle. We have two new players in and they have given us another option but it will take time for those players to adjust to how we play and we need to get them into top physical condition. We have to be realistic.

On transfer moves…
The window closes on Thursday and I would like to bring someone else in. I was very disappointed with one of our players tonight. I don’t want people who play tippy-tappy football without heart or commitment. For this I will try and bring in one player.

On the next game…
The defeat is a defeat and we will analyse the mistakes before the next game. We will not be sad, sad, sad. We must feel the responsibility but we can do much better.
