Preview - Sheffield Utd

6 November 2012

AFTER a ten-day break from League One action, there should be plenty of fireworks as former Town manager Danny Wilson brings his Sheffield United side to The County Ground.

THE VIEW

After the disappointment of going out of the FA Cup on Saturday, manager Paolo Di Canio says that his players must put in a performance worthy of their opponents this evening.

“We have to make a performance,” he said. “Our record against high level teams is good and if we win then that would be fantastic. We must approach the game in the right way and a draw would not be a bad result.

“We will be missing a few players through injury this evening. Hopefully a few of those will be back over the next few weeks but we will have to make the most of what we have.”

THE STORY SO FAR

Danny Wilson’s side make the trip to Wiltshire as the team in form in League One. They are currently unbeaten in all competitions and have recorded five wins from their last six matches. After only winning three games in August and September, the month of October saw a turnaround in fortunes with seven wins in all competitions and just one draw – a home point against Oldham Athletic.

LAST TIME OUT

A double from Chris Hay had Swindon two goals up against Sheffield United on their last visit to SN1 in October 1999. However, two second-half strikes from Martin Smith earned the Blades a share of the spoils. A goal from Gary Elkins – his only goal in Town colours – helped Steve McMahon’s men to three points in February 1997, the last time Swindon registered a win over the Blades. The visitors’ David Holdsworth scored at either end as the Town ran out 2-1 winners.
