SWINDON Town’s Under 18’s will face Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup third round after a comprehensive 6-1 victory against Cirencester Town on Tuesday night.
A crowd of over 500 saw the win which sets up a glamour tie against the Premier League opponents in the next round. Swindon wasted little time in getting at their opponents and Connor Waldon grabbed the first of the game with 14 minutes gone, heading home a cross from the left past visiting goalkeeper Luke Berwick.Shortly after Town captain Alex Ferguson doubled the lead as he raced onto a through ball before lifting an effort over the onrushing Berwick to make it 2-0.
Mark Francis then saw a one on one effort saved by the Cirencester ‘keeper who was by far the busier of the two custodians.The third goal followed on 31 minutes with Waldon sliding in at the back post to net after a superb cross from the left by Matty Jones. Swindon took a three goal advantage into the break and were soon back on the attack after the restart. Three minutes into the second half Swindon scored their fourth with Ferguson on hand to net his second of the night.
A cross from Ferris was chested down by Waldon, with the Town captain on hand to rifle the ball home to make it 4-0.Alex Bateman was caught in possession in the right-back channel and he was robbed of possession by Aaron Ferris, who cut inside onto his right foot before smashing the ball past Berwick and into the roof of the net to make it 5-0.Cirencester substitute Gareth James netted a consolation for the visitors with a tidy finish, before Waldon put his name on the matchball on 78 minutes. The striker connected well with a cross from the left from Ferris to put the seal on an impressive night.
Ryan Rawlins was dismissed late on the for hosts, but Paul Bodin and his side can now look forward to the visit of Liverpool to The County Ground in the week commencing 10 December.
