Collins - I Needed That Luck

6 October 2012

TOWN striker James Collins admits that Lady Luck was smiling on him as he scored his first league goal for Town at Bury.

The former Shrewsbury man notched inside 30 seconds at Gigg Lane and hopes that the strike can be a launchpad for more goals.

“I just looked to put it in a good area,” he said. “I got my head up, maybe put a bit too much on it and luckily enough for me it went in but it was that luck I needed just to get me off the mark. Hopefully I can kick on now and get many more.

“It was surprising to myself and maybe the team that it came so early but my intention was just to get a good ball in the box and luckily for me it went in so I’m delighted.”

“I’ve had to be patient - it hasn’t come and it hasn’t gone for me in the last few games but I’ve stuck in there and managed to get my first goal which I’m happy with and I’m glad the boys could get a win. We maybe didn’t play our best today but coming to Bury or to any side in League One it’s a tough place to come and we managed to get the three points which I’m delighted with.”

After defeat at home in midweek, Collins declared that despite the scrappy performance, getting points on the board was the team’s priority.

He continued: “It wasn’t the prettiest of games but I thought chances-wise we still edged it. They had a few good set pieces but I think we still edged it - it’s a 1-0 win and another clean sheet.

“To stay in the top six you need to get points on the board whether it be a draw or a win. The gaffer said to us before the game that if we can’t win the game then we draw it and luckily enough we stuck in there and we got the win”
