Di Canio - We Showed Fight

13 October 2012

TOWN manager Paolo Di Canio spoke to the media after the 2-2 draw with Coventry at The County Ground

On goals conceded…

We had to mark man on man but the first came without a challenge and that was a mistake. I am angry, because that is not a mistake we can make. In League One you have to get 90 or 95 points to win promotion and we must do better. The second goal was not good and it was a rebound that we should have defended. I was angry with that – you have to feel upset to improve in those aspects. I have given the players two days off now and they must come back full of energy.

On chances created…

After the goal we had clear chances but didn’t score. We arrived in their box 32 times and didn’t make the most of them. We need a top striker to stay at the top level. At the end of the game there is regret. It is a shame but we know why.

On the draw…

We played much better in the second half and we showed good fight. We moved away from the 4-4-2 system and we had to. Ritchie wasn’t delivering the balls we needed and Benson didn’t have a chance so we moved Roberts inside and put Collins and Rooney on. Roberts received the ball in the pocket and gave the full-backs more room to push on. We did very well with the full-backs in those areas. We had technique and application in those areas and we have to be honest, we hadn’t tried that before. It paid off and I am happy. Why not for the future?

On Alan Navarro…

I hope it is not a big problem for him but we shall see. I haven’t seen him yet but he has had a knee problem before and I hope it is not something really big. He was in pain but we don’t know yet exactly what the damage is.
