Di Canio: A Special Night

30 October 2012

TOWN manager Paolo Di Canio spoke to the media after his side's narrow defeat at the hands of Premier League side Aston Villa.

On the performance…

I am very proud of the players. We nearly made what would have been a fantastic comeback but we dominated. We didn’t read the situation properly in a tactical way at times but the players put in so much effort.

On chances created…

We had chances to win the game but the finish at the end from Benteke was the picture of the game. It wasn’t a typical cup game with just energy and physical presence; we played football in the right way. We were on top all game and in the second half we played some fantastic football. Aston Villa made the most of their opportunities – strike and goal. We had ten or 12 chances and scored only twice but we have to accept the result. It is the first time that I am more positive than negative.

On Miles Storey…

He did well tonight and he has learnt a lot since he has been with us. He scored on Saturday at Stevenage and got another two tonight and did very well. He knows he must keep learning and I am sure he will improve much more.

On the atmosphere…

The fans must have enjoyed this game and it was a special night. Saturday will be tough because we will not have the same crowd that we had tonight. Today was a special occasion with a special atmosphere but we must take the best from the game. We have proved that we can play at top level.
