Preview: Scunthorpe United

19 October 2012

Town are back in action at The County Ground on Saturday with Scunthorpe United the visitors to SN1.

THE VIEW

Winger Matt Ritchie believes that Town can build on last week’s performance against Coventry City.

He said: “I’m sure if we start how we did against Coventry, build on that, maybe get an early goal and build on that then I’m sure we’ll be alright on Saturday.”

Potentially four former Swindon Town players could step out on the County Ground turf in Scunthorpe colours at the weekend and Ritchie believes that their involvement will add a little extra spice to the encounter.

"They’ll obviously come back and have a point to prove. When you play against your former club you like to play well and you try that little bit harder so it will be an interesting game."

THE STORY SO FAR

The Iron currently sit third from bottom in League One after waiting until early September to pick up their first point of the season. Alan Knill’s side have only recorded two victories so far this campaign, against Colchester and Shrewsbury.

LAST TIME OUT

Town were 4-2 victors the last time the two sides met at The County Ground in February 2009. An own goal along with strikes from Michael Timlin, Hal Robson-Kanu and Lee Peacock secured the win for Swindon. Scunthorpe’s last win over the Town came in 1985 when they thrashed Lou Macari’s champions-elect 6-2 at The Old Showground.
