Di Canio - Happy With The Win

29 September 2012

TOWN manager Paolo Di Canio spoke to the media after his side's 1-0 at Shrewsbury Town

On the win…
I am very happy because in the past we would have come and maybe drawn, not won. I tried to encourage the players throughout the game. We dominated the game but some ghosts from the past came out. I saw the ball on the line in the second half and it danced around a little, but it didn’t go in. You could look at the game in a negative way, but we are very happy with the win. We suffered in the game and defended with our hearts.

On the team changes…
I decided to change the team after the cup game and we changed six players. We wanted players with desire and energy and in general I was happy. The subs had their part to play as well. Even if Barcelona change six players it’s not easy for them.

On the half-time changes…
I didn’t see the fire from some players so we decided to make changes at half-time. We brought Miller and Roberts on and in this moment Coke is far from the way we want to play. I will help him because he is a guy with enthusiasm and pride. To be honest in the first 15 minutes I should have made changes, but I left it until half-time. In the end we were proved right and we won the game.

On Ferry’s goal…
In the last few weeks I have been tough with him. In the last few games he has played he had chances and we have told him to shoot. Today he was obliged to shoot because he was five yards from goal! The ball bounced in front of him and he got his body in the perfect position and it was an intelligent finish. I was very happy today.

On James Collins…
I spoke to him and I wanted to see a mature performance from him. I told him to play for the team and whilst it would have been nice to see him score, he did his best. He will score goals for Swindon and it was important that he didn’t come out of the game blurry. It was a mature test for him and he passed.

On momentum…
We have to improve a lot and we have got some good results. We have started the season much better than last year and there is quality, knowledge and professionalism here. We have to keep going because we need to keep the consistency and win, win and win.
