Swindon Town Ladies 1-2 Plymouth Argyle

16 September 2012

SWINDON Town LFC went down 2-1 to promotion-chasing Plymouth Argyle on Sunday.

Following relegation from the Southern Premier last season, Argyle held off a late fight-back from Town to secure all three points.

In the first half both sides tried but ultimately failed to break each other down and the score at half time was 0-0.

Swindon began the second 45 in the worst possible fashion, conceding straight away after a mistake. Moments later, Plymouth doubled their lead when a deflected shot found the back of the net.

Despite the setback, the Town Ladies raised their game and pulled one back through Abby Picton. Spurred on by the goal, Swindon set about trying to equalise and were unlucky not to do so. In addition to hitting the crossbar, the visitors' goalkeeper made some fine saves to keep the score as it was.

However, with time running out, the Ladies could not find that crucial equaliser. The result keeps them in 6th place in the South West Combination League.
