Cooper: Very frustrated

24 August 2013

TOWN manager Mark Cooper spoke to the media after Swindon's 2-2 draw with Gillingham.

On the result…
Very frustrated because we played some good football. We have a percentage of young players and they have to see a game out like that. We got a response today. The football was really good - some of the approach play was really good. Our play deserved more than one point.

On the performance…
We can play some really good football but there’s more to it than that. When you play against a physical side you have to do both parts of the game. It’s something we’ve got to learn quickly. We showed the players and worked on that but the number nine got a free header (for the first goal). We sorted that at half time but we got caught with a sucker punch.

On Nile Ranger’s 90 minutes…
It was needs must we didn’t want to leave him on that long but to defend against a big team he had to stay on and defend a lot of set pieces. I thought his performance was first class.

On Nathan Thompson…
We know Nathan can go past people and get forward we’re not too worried who gets the goals but it’s nice to see him get his first goal of the season.

Looking ahead…
You’re never the finished article and we’ve got loads to work on with the boys we’ve got. They’ll only get better and the supporters we’re fantastic today. They really got behind the lads and stuck with them.
