Cooper: A Brilliant Game

21 December 2013

MANAGER Mark Cooper spoke to the media after Town’s 2-1 win over Coventry.

On the result…
It was a fantastic game of football between two really good teams. They’re the best we’ve played. Their forwards are very good, good movement and we did well to keep it to one. We didn’t start great but they settled better. We made some radical changes then I decided to open the game up to see if we could win it.

On the performance…
I’ve mentioned before: away from home we've played like that and got beat. Today they showed they can have a bit of balance and we had to defend a lot at times in the second half. It was much more enjoyable watching that than it was last week. To be fair to Steven Pressley he said to me at the end “what a fantastic game of football.”

On tactics…
We decided to go three at the back and five across the middle and it gave us an attacking threat going forward. We then went for it with three up front and we could have scored four or five. That was tense and hard work for the coaching staff. You’re always trying to come up with something to give you that edge. Luckily, it worked. It was a brilliant game and a fantastic result.

On the goalscorers…
Yaser found himself out of the team and his attitude was spot on. He’s come off the bench and scored and he had another effort off the post. Miles came on and could have had a hat-trick. He's always been in our thoughts but the way we play it doesn’t suit him. He needs to play with another striker. He got in numerous times today playing alongside (Nile) Ranger. He gives the team a different dimension. In the second half he was immense.
