Development win for Town

3 December 2013

A mixture of Town 1st team players and reserves beat Portsmouth 5-2 in a development game this afternoon.

With Manager Mark Cooper in attendance, Swindon, under the stewardship of Academy Manager, Jeremy Newton, took the lead early on through Ryan Mason before quickly doubling their lead with a goal from Nile Ranger. At this point, Town were in control of the game, looking patient and comfortable on the ball. They went further in front when Mason notched his second of the game.

It wasn’t long before new signing Ben Gladwin scored to make it 4-0 but Town then conceded two quick goals just before break.

In the second half, Newton made changes to playing personnel: Off came Mason and Ranger among others and on came Harry Agombar along with Under-18 Scholars, Will Randall, Salvyn Kisitu and Lee Marshall. Swindon then went further into lead thanks to Mohammed Elgabas and continued to control the game.

Afterwards, Jeremy Newton commented: “Overall, it was a good performance where players got some vital match minutes. We have another development game next week and this will be another opportunity for those on the fringes of the first team to get some good match minutes ahead of the busy Christmas schedule.”
